As part of Visit Scotland's Year of Coasts and Waters events campaign for 2020, we are unbelievably excited to be able to bring you our "Follow the Fifes" package. This 7-day skippered sailing itinerary will get you up close and personal with these wonderfully iconic yachts as they return to their home waters for a week of classic yacht racing.
Built in the tiny Ayrshire village of Fairlie in the mid 1800s to early 1900s, the classic wooden Fife yachts have a well-deserved international following and have travelled far and wide, with many spending their lives in the glittering resorts of the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
We will sail with the yachts as much as possible during the Fife Regatta Week, following the action and allowing you plenty of time to marvel at these classic beauties as they sail from Largs, up Argyll's secret coast to the Holy Loch and the Kyles of Bute. We will be making stops at the picturesque town of Tighnabruaich and the seaside resort of Rothesay which still oozes with old-world charm. We will, of course, also be spending plenty of time on the water too. You'll be whisked back in time and will be able to picture yourself sailing in the 1800s in the heyday of these stunning yachts.
Your trip includes 7 days and 7 nights onboard one of our modern luxury yachts. Days will be spent following the Fife Regatta fleet, either sitting back and relaxing or getting stuck in and helping to sail the yacht under the watchful eye of our professional Skipper and First Mate. Spy some wildlife, take some photos, find a quiet spot on deck to indulge in a spot of mindfulness or just spend the day enjoying good company and scenery. Evenings will be spent cooking meals together and socialising with your fellow yacht passengers over a wee whisky or a local gin as you chat about the amazing sailing and sights that you have experienced during the day.
The yachts are truly beautiful, and nothing beats the site of their classic lines charging along under full sail with their golden dragon & wheatsheaf motif cutting through the waves at the bow. We would urge both new and experienced sailors to get out onto the water and grab the chance to see these amazing, awe-inspiring yachts whilst their presence graces our Scottish waters. Where better to see them than in their original homeland against the amazing backdrops of the Kyles of Bute, the Mountains of Arran and Argyll and the rolling hills of the Ayrshire Coast!
This is the ideal trip from anyone interested in getting out onto the water. No experience is required. Just a sense of fun and adventure.
We would also highly recommend this trip to photographers and photography enthusiasts as you will have lots of opportunities to capture amazing images of the boats as they are framed by the stunning scenery of the area.
